Stuffed Leg Of Lamb With Onion Sauce

Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, reserving2 tablespoons drippings.
Crumble bacon.
Combine bacon, onion, breadcrumbs, milk, lemon rind, lemon juice, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper, stirring until blended.
Stuff mixture in cavity of leg of lamb, and tie securely with heavy string at 2- to 3- inch intervals.
Sprinkle with pepper over all sides.
Pour reserved bacon drippings into a shallow baking pan, and place lamb in pan.
Bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit for 2 hours or until meat thermometer registers 160 degrees.
Let stand 20 minutes before carving.
Pour excess fat into a small saucepan.
Add chicken broth and wine.
Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer until mixture is reduced by half.
Serve wine sauce and onion sauce with lamb.
Onion sauce: saute onions in butter until tender.
Add flour, stirring until smooth.
Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Reduce heat to medium; gradually add milk, and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and bubbly.
Stir in remaining ingredients.

String Bean And Onion Salad

Bring the water to a boil in a medium-sized saucepan.
Trim and wash the beans, remove any blemished ones, place them in the boiling water, and cook for about 5 minutes, or until they are tender but still slightly crisp.
Drain the beans, place them in a glass salad bowl, and allow them to cool.
Place the onion slices in a small bowl, cover them with the lemon juice, and allow them to soak for 30 minutes.
When ready to serve, add the onions to the string beans, drizzle them with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and serve at room temperature.

Streamlined French Onion Soup

Combine first 3 ingredients in large nonstick saucepan.
Cover and cook over medium-low heat until vegetables are tender and pale golden, stirring frequently, about 25 minutes.
Add wine, increase heat to high and boil uncovered until liquid is reduced by half, about 5 minutes.
Add beef stock and reduce heat to medium and simmer until vegetables are very tender and liquid is slightly reduced, about 35 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Arrange bread slices on cookie sheet.
Rub each slice with cut side of garlic clove.
Bake bread until lighly toasted, about 10 minutes.
Sprinkle each slice with 1/2 tablespoon cheese; return to oven and bake until cheese melts, about 3 minutes.
Place bread slices in 4 bowls.
Ladle soup over.
Sprinkle with parsley.

Stir-Fry Beef With Peppers And Onion

Combine 1 tablespoon oil, soy sauce, sherry, water, cornstarch, sugar and garlic in a shallow nonmetal dish.
Add the steak strips.

Heat remaining tablespoon oil in wok or nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
Add peppers, onion, mushrooms; stir-fry 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp.
Remove and reserve.
 3.
Add undrained steak to wok; stir-fry 2 minutes until no longer pink.
Return vegetables to wok; stir-fry to heat through.
Serve over rice.

Stir-Fried Quorn With Chinese Blackbeans And Spring Onion

Heat the oil in a large wok or frying pan over high heat.
Add the red onion, and pepper and stir fry for 1 minute.
Now add the garlic, chilli and quorn pieces and cook for a further 3-4 minutes until the quorn pieces have taken a light golden colour.
Add the spring onions and cook for 1 minute more.
Add the sauce ingredients, allow it to come to the boil and thicken slightly.
Serve immediately on rice or noodles.

Stir-Fried Scallops And Onion

Quarter scallops or cut in 1/4-inch slices if large; cut in half if small.
Slice onion thin.
Heat oil.
Add onion and stir-fry to soften.
Add scallops and stir-fry quickly to brown.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then with sherry.
Stir-fry over medium heat until scallops are done 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve at once.

Stir-Fried Onion-Pepper Asparagus

Trim asparagus and cut diagonally into thin slices.
Heat oil in large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Add mushrooms and cook, stirring, until lightly browned.
Add asparagus, green onions, garlic and greep pepper.
Stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add water chestnuts and stir-fry 1 to 2 minutes.
Blend broth, cornstarch adn soy sauce.
Stir into mixture.
Cook, stirring, until thickened.
Reduce heat.
Cover and simmer 2 to 3 minutes or until vegetables are of desired doneness.

Stir-Fried Onion Crackle Beef

Slice beef thin against the grain.
Mince scallions and crush garlic.
Combine scallions with soy sauce and sherry.
Add to beef and let stand 30 minutes, turning occasionally.
Drain, discarding marinade.
Heat oil.
Add garlic and stir-fry a few times.
Add beef and stir-fry until it loses its redness.
Sprinkle with vinegar and sesame oil and stir-fry to blend in.
Reduce heat to low and cook, covered, 2 minutes.
Serve at once.
Variation: for the beef, substitute tender fillet of lamb.

Stir-Fried Broccoli, Red Onion, And Red Pepper

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add oil and butter.
Add broccoli and toss to coat with oil and butter.
Cook until bright green and heated through 5 to 8 minutes.
Add onion slices; cook, tossing with broccoli, until onion is translucent about 5 minutes.
Add red pepper and continue cooking until pepper is soft but still holds its shape 2 minutes.
Toss basil and oregano with broccoli, onion, and red pepper, and serve immediately.

Steak With Onion And Tomato

Cook onions in margarine in medium saucepan over medium high heat until tender.
Add tomatoes, 1/4 cup steak sauce, and vinegar bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer 5 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Stir in parsley.
Set aside.
Place steak on rack in broiler so surface of meat is 3-4 inches from heat.
Broil 12-17 minutes to desired doneness rare to medium rare, turning once.
Brush with remaining steak sauce.
Serve with vegetable mixture.
Can substitute top sirloin steak - cook 16-21 minutes.

Steak Cheese And Onion Sa

Grill steaks on one side 1/2 minute on lightly greased grill.
Grill thinly sliced onions 5-6 minutes.
Set aside for use in step 3.
Turn steaks; cover 100 steaks with cheese slices.
Grill steaks 1/2 minute.
Slice rolls in half lengthwise.
Place 2 steaks on bottom half of each roll.
Add steak with cheese on top.
Place 2 1/2 ounces 1/3 cup onions on each sandwich.
Cover with top half of roll.
Serve immediately.
Note: 1.
When grilling frozen steaks, use only half of grill space to permit heat recovery.

Steak And Onion Stew

Trim most of the fat from the steak with a fork, pierce on both sides.
Cut into serving pieces for at least6 people.
Place flour in an oven cooking bag, shake to coat the inside of the bag.
Add steak pieces and shake to coat well.
Place bag in a 2 quart baking dish.
Pour beef broth and wine into bag.
To seal the bag tie loosely with a strip of plastic, or string, leaving a small space for steam to escape.
Microwave at high 100% for 5 minutes.
Microwave at medium 50% for 25 minutes.
Turn roast over.
Add onions.
Microwave at medium 50% until fork tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
Let stand 10 minutes.
Slit top of bag.
Remove meat and onions, sprinkling with salt and pepper, if desired.
Pour gravy into pitcher and serve separately.

Steak And Onion Spring Rolls

Prepare in advance: cut onions in half lengthwise, the cut into 4″ pieces.
Place the steak between sheets of greasproof paper and pound into 1/8″ thickness.
Cut the steaks in half crosswise.
Arrange the strip of onions down the length of each piece of meat.
Starting with the wide end, roll into tight cylinders.
Secure with toothpicks.
To cook: preheat grill.
Dip rolls in teriaki sauce and grill them 3″ from heat for 3 minutes.
Dip again in sauce and grill for another 3 minutes.
Remove toothpicks, trim ends, and cut into 1″ pieces.
Stand each piece on end.

Steak And Onion Salad With Creamy Buttermilk Dressing

Until blended and smooth.
Spray a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray.
Heat over medium-high heat.
Add onion slices.
Cover and cook 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned and crisp-tender.
Remove from skillet.
Spray skillet with cooking spray again.
Add steak and cook over medium-high heat 8 to 10 minutes, turning once for medium.
Remove steak from skillet and thinly slice.
Sprinkle slices with the salt and pepper.
To serve: toss tomatoes, cucumbers and salad greens in a large salad bowl.
Add steak and onions.
Serve dressing alongside.

Preheat broiler.
Season steak with 1/4 tsp of the salt and 1/8 teaspoon of the ground black pepper.
Broil 1 to 2 inches from the heat until desired doneness 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium-rare.
Cut into thin slices; cool slightly.
Place in a large salad bowl with lettuce, onions, cucumber and red pepper, set aside.
In a cup, combine olive oil, lime juice, dill and remaining 1 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper; pour over salad; serve immediately.

Sri Lanka Bistake Beef Steak Saute W Onion

Slice the beef into 50mm slices.
Make onion rings with 1 1/2 onions and chop remainder.
Mix together the vinegar, salt and pepper in a bowl and marinate beef for 1 hour.
Heat the oil in a frying pan and when hot add the curry leaves, chopped onion and cinnamon stick.
When fragrant add the beef and marinade.
Cover pan and cook over a low heat until the beef is tender.
Remove the beef and set aside.
Add the onion rings to the pan and stir fry for a couple of minutes.
Add the mustard, stock, sugar and chile powder and mix well.
Put back the beef slices and cook for a further 2-3 minutes.
Remove the cinnamon stick before serving.

Sri Lanka Ala Badun Potatoes And Onion

Place the potato in a bowl and and add the salt, turmeric, chile powder and paprika powder heat the oil and when hot add the curry leaves followed by the onion, mustard and cinnamon stick.
